Greenville racers shine as Rocket Raceway Park crowns KR Cup champs on By-Line Surveying Night

August 15, 2022

Chad Abernathy won the By-Line Surveying USRA Factory Stock main event.

Chad Abernathy won the By-Line Surveying USRA Factory Stock main event.

Another Saturday night, another barn-burner for the racers and fans at the Rocket Raceway Park on By-Line Surveying Championship Night for the KR Cup presented by Parkway Buick GMC.

With a plump field of 42 By-Line Surveying USRA Factory Stocks on hand, the battles were fierce and thrilling from the drop of the green flag, but in the end it was Chad Abernathy of Mt. Ida, Ark., holding off Bryce Pritchett of Crandall for the win.

Neil Kemp, who started 11th on the grid, claimed third-place money while 14th-starting Alan Screws of Pickton followed from the back half of the pack to get fourth.

While Pickton finished second in the track’s final points standings, Deaon Redmon of Paris finished fifth in the feature race and locked up the track championship.

Seventh-starting Pritchett followed his Factory Stock effort with a win in the Douglass Distributing USRA Stock Car main event while runner-up John Winters of Pattonville won the season-long points battle at the track.

Lee McCullough of Combine was third at the finish line followed by Sherman shoes Jeremy Henry and Jeffery Hill.

Capturing his tenth feature win of the season in the Coston & Son Ready Mix USRA Limited Mods, Rowdy Day of Greenville had to best the division’s track champion, Billy Brierton of Greenville, to do it.

Meanwhile, Shannon Hartline of Ivanhoe took third, Chad Ross of Sulphur Springs was fourth and Jason Gamez of Dallas completed the top five.

The Buckmeyer Motorsports Eco-Mod main event went to Drew Pattat of Kaufman as he held off eighth-starting Cory Whitworth of Durant, Okla., for the victory.

Newly crowned track champion Jacob Watts of Sulphur Bluff, Brian Hopkins of Ravenna and Gary Jackson of Princeton rounded out the top five finishers in the feature race.

The second of three winners from Greenville on Saturday, Kaylee Bolden topped the Camp Gladiator-Emory Junior Limited Modified feature race with Maguire Poole of Trenton and Irving’s Ashton Bhakta joining her on the podium.

Scout Nation is the 2022 KR Cup presented by Parkway Buick GMC class champion.

Optimum Collision Trooper Cruisers brought two to battle with Christanya Nold of Azle nabbing the checkers over Melissa Freeman of Elmore City.

The Southern Topless Economy Modifieds (STEMS) were a special guest for the night, and Greenville’s Jimmy Day made it a family affair in Ballistic Trailer Sales Victory Lane.

Jacob Twomey of Carthage, Kelly Welborn of Princeton, Dennis Bowles of Denison and Dennis Smith of Princeton were the next four, respectively, to cross the finish line.

On the launch pad: With the championship points races in the rearview mirror, the Rocket Raceway Park is preparing for a colossol four-event finale to wrap up this exciting 2022 season under the direction of Kevin Rogers and Kevin Sustaire.

Saturday, Sept. 3, will feature the American Racer Modified Series presented by Day Motor Sports as the USRA Modifieds headline the 8th Annual Bryan Mize Memorial presented by Walker, Warren & Jordan Surveying & Mapping, ABEL Truck & Trailer Sales and Pinnacle Roofing & Construction.
On Saturday, Sept. 17, it’s the 2nd Annual Cowboy Up Classic and one month later the 7th Annual SmackDown takes place Friday and Saturday, Oct. 21-22.

The American Racer Modified Series returns for the series finale on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 4-5, as the palace of power in Petty hosts the inaugural ARMS Nationals.

The Rocket Raceway Park holds 3,400 spectators and its elevated grandstands offer superb viewing from any seat. The venue can be found in Lamar County—about 15 minutes west of Paris and 25 minutes east of Bonham. The physical location is 16369 US-82, Petty, TX 75470.
