The management team of Kevin Sustaire and Kevin Rogers, and their staff offers heartfelt thanks to everybody that came out and endured the cold weather on Saturday for the first practice at the Rocket Raceway Park since the duo took the reins at the Petty, Texas, dirt oval previously known as 82 Speedway.
"Today not only was a test and tune for the drivers and crews, it was a test and tune for us as well, Rogers said. "We apologize for the delay in doing some track prep early on. The weather was extremely tricky today and made it a little tough, but we got through it and feel good about the surface and what it has in store."
The second of three pre-season open practices is slated for next Sunday, Feb. 20.
The Rocket Raceway Park will see five competitive divisions of weekly racing action in 2022 including Douglass Distributing USRA Stock Cars, Coston & Son Ready Mix USRA Limited Mods, By-Line Surveying USRA Factory Stocks, Buckmeyer Motorsports Eco-Mods and the new Optimum Collision Trooper Cruisers.
The Walker, Warren & Jordan Land Surveying USRA Modifieds will join the card on a bi-weekly basis. They will compete for the Rocket Challenge in 2022 and alternate weekends with the Superbowl Speedway in Greenville, Texas.
The Rocket Raceway Park will play host to several special events too, including the season lid-lifter on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, March 3-5, for the 12th Annual Texas Spring Nationals featuring high-powered Modifieds of the Summit USMTS National Championship presented by RacinDirt.
The fast and wide quarter-mile high-banked dirt oval will also welcome Douglass Distributing USRA Stock Cars, Coston & Son Ready Mix USRA Limited Mods and By-Line Surveying USRA Factory Stocks both nights. The third and final pre-season practice is Thursday, March 3.
Other special events throughout the year will see one or more visits by the the American Crate Late Model Series, USRA American Racer Modified Series, Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series, ASCS Elite Non-Wing Sprint Car Series, Texas Sprint Series and NOW600 National Series.
“It is going to be a challenging and exciting season for us, the drivers, crews, partners and fans for the Rocket Raceway Park,” Rogers revealed. “Sustaire and I have been burning the candle at both ends this short off-season finalizing the details and are ready to get started.”
The Rocket Raceway Park holds 3,400 spectators and its elevated grandstands offer superb viewing from any seat. The venue can be found in Lamar County—about 15 minutes west of Paris and 25 minutes east of Bonham. The physical location is 16369 US Hwy 82, Petty, TX 75470.
