The Rocket Raceway Park in Petty, Texas, played host to the 15th Annual Texas Spring Nationals on Friday, March 7, featuring the Summit USRA Weekly Racing Series in support of the USMTS Modifieds.
A packed field of drivers from Louisiana, Oklahoma and Texas competed across three divisions—Stealth Oilwell Services USRA Stock Cars, Coston & Son Ready Mix USRA Limited Mods and Offen Petroleum USRA Factory Stocks—delivering an electrifying night of racing action under the Texas sky.
Honeywell holds the line: Tyler Honeywell of Antlers, Okla., emerged victorious in the Stealth Oilwell Services USRA Stock Car feature, piloting his No. 58 car to a win after starting second.
Honeywell fended off Tommy Fain of Abilene while Shawn Graham of Shreveport, La., rounded out the podium in third, driving the No. XXX from the third starting spot.
The heat races set the tone for the main event, with Honeywell and Graham each securing wins. Fain, starting from fourth in his heat, showcased his speed early, while Jesse Freelen of Powderly recovered from a DNS in his heat race to finish sixth in the feature after starting 10th.
Evans charges to victory: Boone Evans of Bullard stole the show in the Coston & Son Ready Mix USRA Limited Mods feature, driving the No. 457 from fifth to first. Matthew Riskey of Commerce settled for second, while Hunt County Raceway boss Josh Landers of Tom Bean climbed from seventh to third.
The division’s three heat races were won by Mason Day (Farmersville), Riskey and Payton Johannesen (Gun Barrel City), setting up a deep and competitive field.
Matthew Day, also of Farmersville, made a notable run from ninth to fourth, and Cody King of Fanshawe, Okla., advanced from 11th to fifth.
George takes the crown: Richard George Jr. of Dodd City claimed the Offen Petroleum USRA Factory Stock feature victory, driving the No. 22C from second to first in a commanding performance.
Ector's Rodney White finished a close second in the No. 38DD after starting fourth, while Rowdy Day of Greenville charged from 10th to third, earning the night’s hard-charger honors.
Heat race wins went to James Proctor (Paris) and Kyle Blanton (Blossom), but neither could maintain their momentum in the feature, finishing eighth and 11th, respectively.
Twin 20s on tap: The 4th Annual Twin 20s Stock Car Special is on tap for Friday and Saturday, April 11-12, at the 3/8-mile high-banked clay oval.
Along with the USRA Stock Cars, drivers will be competing for track and regional points in the USRA Limited Mods and Sunoco USRA Factory Stocks both nights.
Eco-Mods and Jr. Limited Mods are also on the program.
